Farm life childhood except for those few months we discovered land mines. Once parents found out they a stop to that fast. I had a classmate move to California from Angola in 1995. We were asked to draw pictures of our childhood- what we do for fun. Most kids drew soccer balls, BMX bikes, skateboards and stuff, but my friend from Angola drew a soldier in tall grass shooting an AK-47. I was too young at the time to really understand violence in another country through the eyes of a 9 year old, but this really put it in perspective why he was so grateful living here.
