Conscription became an increasingly necessary measure during the war, but was still outpaced by volunteer enlistments among the Allies. I do however agree with the assertion that all people's lives are valuable. One of the fundamental premises of the Laws of Armed Conflict is to aspire to decrease the toll of warfare on people, both civilian and military. Also the polls in 2016 severely underrepresented non-college voters something the 2020 polls have theoretically.
